I'm honor to my Uncle Keith, who was MIA later presumed dead from WWII, 68 years ago today. He flew 23 mission at Northern Africa and Sicily Campaign and his B-25 bomber plane was shot down.Two out of five survived. I got interesting way back 199o to researched to know more about his Bomb Group. Second I did is to go National Archive at Suitland, Md which moved to new place near University of Maryland. I did called ahead to give information,when I got there to see people had their own table to do researched boxes and boxes. Boy, its going to be days to do research.Anyway, They told me I can sit there at the empty table. Minuets later I had only one box, I was lucky that found something, its mostly flight sorties From 1942-1945 but I start the day that he was shot down and go backwards. I found micro film there was hand writing of the reports about his plane was shot down near Randazzo, Sicily the villager buried the 3 bodies near the crash site and later the British Army dug them up to try identify the men but no dog tags. Nobody in the family knew it because it was classified and declassified at 1958 which I was born.
I try to follow the trail and founded more info that they had temporally cemetery in Sicily too busy fighting and after war they move to Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, its in Nettuno 30 miles south from Rome. I did get it to go The 12 Bomb Group Reunions back 1991 at Tacoma, WA. for 50th Anniversary. I did interview them and learned allot from the nicest people that I ever met and some of them knew my Uncle. I need to get this done to write from all the notes that I wrote and video. I'm glad that my other Uncle Don (his younger brother) got a chance to go over to visit Rome with his wife and their tour group and take time to go to the cemetery on their own from the tour group,before He passed away 2008. I hope some day that I will follow to visit and do more research to finish the final Chapter.
